To the issue of the moral and psychological characteristics of the modern criminal personality

Background. Currently in the Russian Federation there are changes in the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of crime. New forms of criminal activity appear, methods of committing crimes are modified. This is largely due to the fact that new qualities and signs appear in the personality structure of a modern criminal. All this predetermines the study of the personality characteristics of the individual, which determine his criminal behavior, in order to develop measures for the prevention of individual crimes and the impact on crime in general. The foregoing emphasizes the relevance of the study. The purpose of the study is to identify the typical properties that make up the essence of the personality of a modern criminal. Materials and methods. The article used doctrinal sources on the problem under study and the results of sociological surveys of convicts. The methodological basis was the universal dialectical method of cognition. Also, when preparing the article,  the following methods were implemented: logical, formal legal, expert assessments, and questioning. Results. In the course of the study, the main features of the personality of a modern criminal were revealed. Conclusions. It is concluded that socio-demographic, moral-psychological, criminal-legal and biological signs of the offender's personality are interconnected, and together they determine individual criminal behavior. However, moral and psychological properties have a dominant influence on the formation of a criminal personality.
